Today I’m delighted to share my recent chat with Karen James from South Africa. She shares her fascinating path into astrology and her current practise, her thoughts on the power of meditation and the ancient art of chirology.
We speak about the simple, elemental joys that help us stay human in a world that asks so much of us and the Cancer-Capricorn pull toward water and mountains, Jupiter in the 12th house as a kind of guardian angel; fasting becomes a doorway into clarity; and we even question why our days begin at midnight and why we would change the calendar altogether!

Karen is a professional astrologer who draws on ancient and modern astrological techniques, teaches and mentors astrologers of all levels. She has been consulting clients since 2004 using a multitude of approaches and techniques garnered over years of study. She founded Sky Guide School of Professional Astrology in 2024. Karen is currently the Chairperson of COSAPA – Community of Southern African Professional Astrologers, which evolved from the Cape Astrology Association of which she was chair from January 2022.
